Here are some current articles I read today that could inspire you to plan a vacation. That is if you let food and wine be your guide...
LudoBites 9 headed to Hawaii in March
LudoBites Hawaii
This was big news on Twitter today. Chef Ludo Lefebvre, who is considered one of the pioneers in LA's pop-up food culture, is hosting his first out of LA pop-up at Hualalai Resort and Four Seasons Resort on Hawaii's Big Island in March. LudoBites 8 currently taking place in LA. I will be going for the first time, so stand by for a full coverage.
Cooking up gourmet adventures across the west
Great article in today's Los Angeles Times on cooking ventures on the west coast. I am specially drawn to the one at Baja that gives married men lesson on how to make romantic breakfast. I am also drawn to it because of the next story that talks about a vibrant food culture in Baja.
Letter from Tijuana
I read this in the January 30th issue of The New Yorker. Great article on a chef Javier Plascencia's efforts to revive Tijuana's image with his visionary cooking at Mision 19. The link is for the abstract but get hold of the full story; it is worth it. The article also gives an interesting account on Tijuana's history. Based on this article I would also check out Benito Molina's Restaurante Manzanilla in Ensenada if you happen to be in Baja. I am also interested in tasting wine from this region.
Other interesting food news
Fresh lunch ideas in Los Angeles
Check out the great restaurants listed here. Cooks County and Maison Giruad are new restaurants that opened in 2011 that I would love to check out.
Review of Short Order
New burger joint at The Farmer's Market by Nancy Silverton of Mozza (one of my favorite restaurants in LA) and Amy Pressman. I haven't eaten here yet, but I did get a delicious cappuccino at Short Cake close to Short Order that also opened recently. It is also a collaboration between the two ladies that sells desserts, pastries, and interesting drinks.
Good food and wine also has the potential to transport you mentally to beautiful places, experiences, recollections...
Bon Voyage!
